Fall Leaves

As the leaves change to yellow and reds
The children play until it’s time for bed
The deer and squirrels begin to search
For food near the birch
The sun falls so the moon can see
Everyone living happily
All but one is full of joy
As tears fall from a little boy
Though he may not belong

The birch tree sings him a song
“In one house there is no sound
No children laugh and play around
One man lies in wait for his maker
While his family waits for the taker
Late that night as they lie in wait
His mother comes to seal his fate
All that night their troubles and fears
Are ended by a wave of tears
Even though he is gone
His memory will carry on”
